Myth Or Fact?

What has really irritated me has been well-intentioned non-smokers who are trying to encourage you to quit yet refer to it as a habit. If it were merely a habit, many of us would have successfully quit years ago. Biting my nails, as nasty as it is, was a habit of mine through my childhood & teen years. I quit doing that in '92 with little effort. Bad habits and addiction are not at all the same. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hey Josie, This is one of the myths that just tees me off. I had a quit smoking hynosis CD and the hypnotist even called smoking a "bad habit" on the CD. I really should write him and straighten him out. When smoking comes up as a topic of conversation, ALOT of people will comment.."I know, it is such a bad habit"...even anti smoking advertising campaigns have referred to it as a habit. A bad habit is throwing your towel on the floor after a shower, not making more juice when you drink the last glass, never putting your own dishes in the dishwasher, or forgeting to feed the cat...SMOKING IS AN ADDICTION! Thanks for helping to spread the truth. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 234 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,616 Amount Saved: $1,170.00 Life Gained: Days: 32 Hrs: 14 Mins: 35 Seconds: 39

Myth: Smoking is just a bad habit. Fact: Wouldnt that be nice! Smoking is addictive and harmful to you and your loved ones. Nicotine is an addictive drug and causes changes in your brain that makes you want to use it time and again. Cigarettes contain another 3,999 other chemicals besides nicotine, 50 of which are carcinogens. Breaking the habit is very hard but detoxing your body of all harmful chemicals is well worth it.
